NOD-LIKE RECEPTORS (NLRs)

چکیده

NLR Proteins In mammals, germ-line encoded pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) detect the presence of pathogens either directly through recognition of pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) or indirectly through sensing host-derived danger signals (DAMPs). The innate immune system comprises several classes of PRRs that allow the early detection of pathogens at the site of infection. The membrane-bound toll-like receptors (TLRs) detect microbes on the cell surface and in endosomes. The RIG-1 (retinoic acidinducible gene I)-like receptors (RLRs; RLHs) and the Nod-like receptors (NLRs; nucleotide-binding domain leucine-rich repeat containing receptors) detect microbial components in the cytosol.

NOD-Like Receptors: Guardians of Intestinal Mucosal Barriers.

The NOD-like receptors (NLRs) are cytosolic pattern-recognition receptors, which are critically involved in mucosal immune defense. The association of the NLR, NOD2, with inflammatory bowel disease first pointed to the NLRs potential function as guardians of the intestinal barrier. Since then, several studies have emphasized the importance of NLRs in maintaining gut homeostasis and intestinal i...

NOD-Like Receptors in Infection, Immunity, and Diseases

Nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptors (NLRs) are pattern-recognition receptors similar to toll-like receptors (TLRs). While TLRs are transmembrane receptors, NLRs are cytoplasmic receptors that play a crucial role in the innate immune response by recognizing pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). Based on the...

Diversity and Variability of NOD-Like Receptors in Fungi

Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain (NOD)-like receptors (NLRs) are intracellular receptors that control innate immunity and other biotic interactions in animals and plants. NLRs have been characterized in plant and animal lineages, but in fungi, this gene family has not been systematically described. There is however previous indications of the involvement of NLR-like genes in nonself re...

The Dual Role of Nod-Like Receptors in Mucosal Innate Immunity and Chronic Intestinal Inflammation

Nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain NOD-like receptors (NLRs) are highly conserved cytosolic pattern recognition receptors that play, in combination with toll-like receptors, a critical role in innate immunity and inflammation. These proteins are characterized by a central oligomerization domain termed nucleotide-binding domain, and a protein interaction domain containing leucine-rich...

Interactions between Nod-Like Receptors and Intestinal Bacteria

Nucleotide oligomerization domain (Nod)-like Receptors (NLRs) are cytosolic sensors that mediate the activation of Caspase-1 and the subsequent processing and secretion of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and IL-18, as well as an inflammatory cell death termed pyroptosis. While a multitude of bacteria have been shown to activate one or more NLRs under in vitro conditions, the exact impact o...
